From a successful model strutting down the catwalk for Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated, she transitioned to an actress, stunning us as the blue-skinned Mystique in the “X-Men” franchise and as the transsexual Alexis in “Ugly Betty”. Her performance as the shapeshifting Mystique in the film X-Men (2000), which was based on the long-running comic book series about young mutant superheroes and was established in 1962 by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, is widely regarded as Rebecca’s most famous film role to date. Rebecca had to begin each day as Mystique in her role as a nudist, and then two female makeup artists would spend eight hours a day covering her body in blue body paint and other stick-on components in order for her to play the role. Rebecca mentioned to Jay Leno on an episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (1992) that items like tissue paper would stick to her hips. Additionally, she mentioned that one day, the long hours of wearing sticky paint makeup caused her to become so unhappy that director Bryan Singer advised her to have a glass of white wine and relax.

They announced their engagement on the evening of Christmas Eve in 1997, and they wed at the Beverly Hills Hotel on September 19, 1998. During the time that she was married, she conducted both her personal and professional life under the name Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. In April of 2004, they made the decision to publicly announce their split. Stamos initially filed for divorce in August 2004, and the divorce was finally finalized one year later on March 1, 2005.
